Oil boiler breakdown and repair

An oil boiler that locks out or will not fire can leave a rural home without heating and hot water. PCR provides methodical fault diagnosis and practical repairs across Cawood, Selby and nearby villages.

Oil boiler faults we handle

  • Boiler locked out or repeatedly needing a reset
  • Burner not firing or stopping shortly after ignition
  • No heating, no hot water or both
  • Unusual smoke, smells, soot or combustion noise
  • Loss of system pressure or circulation problems
  • Oil supply, filter, nozzle or control faults

What PCR checks

  • Oil level, supply line, isolation valves and filters
  • Burner, nozzle, ignition components and photocell
  • Combustion chamber, baffles and flue condition
  • Controls, thermostats, pumps and motorised valves
  • Combustion performance using appropriate analysis equipment

Clear advice before repair work begins

If you can smell strong oil fumes, see smoke or suspect a leak, switch the appliance off if it is safe to do so and call PCR for advice.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my oil boiler keep locking out?

Lockout can be caused by interrupted oil supply, a blocked filter or nozzle, ignition failure, poor combustion or a faulty sensor. Repeated resets can hide the underlying problem.

Do you repair oil boilers that are not firing?

Yes. PCR diagnoses oil supply, burner, ignition, control and circulation faults on domestic oil-heating systems.

Can servicing prevent oil boiler breakdowns?

Annual servicing can identify contamination, soot build-up, worn nozzles and combustion problems before they cause a breakdown, although no service can guarantee that a component will not fail.
