Gas and oil heating support

No heating or hot water?

A cold home or failed hot-water supply can have several causes, from a control or pressure problem to a boiler or cylinder fault. PCR identifies the cause before recommending parts or repair work.

Common symptoms

  • Boiler appears on but radiators remain cold
  • Hot water works but central heating does not
  • Heating works but taps only run cold
  • Boiler pressure repeatedly drops
  • Intermittent heating or hot water
  • Fault codes, warning lights or unusual noises

What to check before calling

  • Confirm the programmer and room thermostat are calling for heat
  • Check whether there is an area-wide power interruption
  • Note the boiler pressure and any visible fault code
  • Do not remove the boiler casing or repeatedly reset the appliance
  • If you smell gas, leave the property and call 0800 111 999

Clear advice before repair work begins

PCR works on domestic gas and oil heating systems. Gas appliance work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers and oil work by OFTEC-registered engineers.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I have hot water but no heating?

Common causes include programmer or thermostat settings, a motorised valve, circulation pump, low pressure or a boiler control fault. The exact cause depends on the type of heating system.

Why does my boiler pressure keep dropping?

Repeated pressure loss may indicate a leak, expansion-vessel problem or pressure-relief fault. Continually topping up the boiler is not a permanent repair.

Is no heating considered an emergency?

It can be urgent for vulnerable occupants, very cold weather or homes at risk of frozen pipes. PCR prioritises local requests during working hours subject to engineer availability.
